Things to Do While You’re Here

Between race stages, take time to explore the beauty, heritage and adventure that define Rhondda Cynon Taf.

 

Explore the Great Outdoors on Two Wheels

  • Barry Sidings Countryside Park - a popular hub for mountain biking with numerous steep, technical off-piste trails, including Black Gold and Scary Mary. It features a bike shop (Bike Doctor), café, and a pump track, making it a great, accessible venue for intermediate to advanced riders.
  • Bwlch Mountain & Rhigos Mountain – iconic viewpoints with panoramic valley vistas. Enjoyed by elite cyclists all year round. The Rhigos Mountain along with the Penrhys and Maerdy mountains are all on the 2027 Tour de France GB route!
  • Cwm Clydach Country Park - you can hire bikes here including side‑by‑side bikes and adult mountain bikes. Hire is by the hour, and bookings can only be made in person at the onsite office/shop (open 10–4). You’ll need to fill out a short form and leave a form of ID as a deposit. The service is run by volunteers, and you can call 01443 433853 (option 2) for more information.
  • Dare Valley Country Park – Dare Valley is a magnet for walkers and cyclists all year round. The blue graded trails are enjoyed by mountain bikers while the pump track is perfect for younger cyclists. Adult and children’s mountain bikes are also available for hire here. You can book by calling 07854 696179.
  • Llanwonno Forest – perfect for hiking, trail running and mountain biking
  • The Taff Trail – a scenic cycling route linking RCT to Cardiff and beyond
