Ty'n y Bedw Forest Walk

This walk takes you high into the Rhondda mountains and starts in award-winning Treorchy High Street (more on that later – let’s just say the adventure does not end with the walk!)

Move through the busy terraced street and then onto the path where Mother Nature takes over. As soon as you begin the route, you find the pond which is one of several dotted along the route of the walk.

Zig zag up the mountains – there are some steep inclines, but the walk is generally manageable – as you loop around the side of the mountain up to the highest point at 470m. Most of the paths on the walk are well defined, but it does get muddy in places.

Place a rock on the cairn that stands on the summit – a mountaineering tradition – and enjoy stunning views over Treorchy and Pentre, as well as what was once the T’yn y Bedw Colliery, which closed in 1933.

See if you can spot The Oval, the grounds of the famous Treorchy RFC, known locally as The Zebras.

At the end of your walk, relax and refuel in Treorchy, a winner of the UK Independent High Street of the Year award. It has lots of places - from traditional Valleys cafes to gastropubs to rest and grab a meal or snack.

There's a lovely range of independent shops, selling everything from Welsh crafts and goodies for your home to baby clothes and candles!
