Dare Valley Country Park Wind Farm Walk

Trek almost 500m above beautiful Dare Valley Country Park and take in the glacial mountains formed in the last Ice Age.

This walk takes you 9km through the park and around its lakes, past rows of cottages where the men who once worked in the Bwllfa Coal Mine that shaped this area lived with their families.

It’s hard to believe this beautiful landscape was shaped equally by Mother Nature and the coal mining industry for which we are famed the world over.

Trek through steep pathways to enjoy sweeping views over Aberdare and the Cynon Valley and the dramatic Tarren Y Bwllfa, known locally as “The Darren” which forms the backdrop of Dare Valley Country Park and was formed in the last Ice Age.

At the summit, you will explore land surrounding the Pen Y Cymoedd wind farm, the highest altitude wind farm in the UK, before descending back into the park, where a well-deserved cuppa at Caffi Cwtsh awaits!
